One of my many domains was coming up for renewal. I decided to cancel it, since I'm not using it as I'd hoped to. I could have kept it, hoping it would gain value, but it was pretty site specific. Right now, I'm looking at monthly bills, and trying to see where I can cut back. This upcoming renewal wasn't a huge amount, but then again it was more than I wanted hitting my credit card right now.
Since our incoming income has changed this year, I'm trying to be more careful with spending. I'm looking at things that bill automatically and deciding if I want to continue them all. I decided as much as I love my Sirius online radio, I get free commercial free radio through my digital box, and that saves me another almost $14 each month. It doesn't sound like a lot alone, but when you add up all your extra small bills, you realize that each month, you're paying more than you think about. You sometimes overlook those small bills.
We're getting back to using glasses, coffee cups, regular plates and silverware. We've fallen into the convenience trap, and are spending a lot on those extras. When we went to Costco this week, by not buying the disposable cups and hot cups, we saved $22 and are making a better choice for the environment. We're finding some generic brands that work just as well as others. It's trial and error.
One of my big concerns is with credit cards. I need to limit the amount going onto my cards that isn't necessary. My balance creeps up, and before you know it, you're debt is climbing. Right now, my goal come September is to pay off my credit cards. Due to vacations, I need to use that money for spending at this point on the trips.
With me going back to school in the fall, it becomes a perfect time to focus on that debt. Everything I make will go to paying those balances down. The other thing I'm doing is using sites like CreditCardsClub.com and looking at different types of cards. I've considered either looking at 0% balance cards, or using reward cards. Right now, I'm not getting anything out of my regular cards.
Take for instance at CreditCardsClub.com you can look at cards based on your needs. If you're looking for a lower interest card, cards for poor credit, or reward cards, they make it really easy. Everything has it's own category, so navigation is really easy. You can easily check out a
credit card rating over at CreditCardsClub.com
I'm thinking a lower interest card would help me more than the 0% balance transfer, because on many, as soon as you start spending on it, that stops. I need to read the fine print of each card. I have monthly expenses of web hosting and other things, that will continue to go on my cards. Low interest may be right up my alley. Honestly, one of my cards is charging me too much interest!
The other thing I noticed is they have a
business credit card section. I keep thinking it would make more sense to have all my business expenses on one dedicated card, rather than stretched between two regular cards. I have some serious thinking to do this summer. It's time to get on this credit debt, especially with the change in our income.
