Friends? 10 years/90 seconds

Check this out...I found it on YouTube. Friends, 10 years in 90 seconds, in a unique way! Cracked me up...

December All Ready?

This Friday marks the first day of December...how is that even possible? I think I'm stuck back in early October or something, because my mind is NOT registering that it's really this time of year all ready.

I still want to go outside without a jacket, and those days are ending....I'll have to wait until spring or some mildly wild and sunny day if we are blessed with one.

Anyway...I'll be signing off for now, and I'm wishing you a happy end of Nov, and a great December as well!

GeoDuck Clams (Gooey Ducks)

geoduck.jpg

What the heck is a GeoDuck Clam; pronounced GooEy Duck?

We were watching Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe awhlie back and one of the jobs he worked on was at a GeoDuck hatchery. These clams freaked me out! I'm a Jersey girl so I'm used to clams being the big ole ones you see on the beach, or little neck and cherrystones...what the heck is a Gooey Duck/GeoDuck?

This particular company was up in the Pacific, I think around Washington. They suck down into the sand, and the arm can grow up to 4-5 feet long and grow straight up, that's where they release excess fluid, I guess breath and such. All I know is these things were freaky!

You boil them for 6 seconds, shuck the shell part in the bottom, which releases the skin type thing over the arm, and then they slice up the arm in thin pieces which is served sushi style...

These things were so wild! Now you know what a Geo Duck Clam is. (Gooey Duck)

Sexy Lamp, Eh?

leg.jpg

Love "A Christmas Story"? (See previous post as well!)

Maybe the lamp is more your style! You can actually order this lamp from Amazon. I wonder how many people actually have! I can't imagine this in my house...sure I love the movie, but I'm not buying the lamp! If you want to, just click on the picture and it will take you there....

A Christmas Story

xmas.jpg

Yes, it's that time again! Time for "A Christmas Story" to play over and over again in Marathon. This is such a classic that it get's a full 24 hour play and then plays almost weekly during this next month on television. I love this movie...

Now they actually have a boardgame! I saw this in a catalog for "Things you Didn't Know Existed".  Just when you thought you had everything!

Where are the Hugs?

I'm having kind of a rough day today. My son and I got into an argument last night. It wasn't pretty, and when you hang up, there are no hugs when you live an hour away. He's 12 and isn't in the logical mind set at this point, but is in the "because I want it this way" mind set. That can be difficult at times. Living in another household, how do you set boundaries and stand your ground as a parent, when it ends up hurting you in the long run.

Things will resolve themselves...but it's hard. There are no hugs today...no gentle kisses to the forehead that say "Even though we had a fight, I still love you."

I have a heavy heart tonight and I things aren't always smooth sailing between kids and parents, but when you are the parent who lives in the other home, there are things you just never think about until that moment arrives.

Disney Store vs. World of Disney "Store"

I stood in an incredible short line, or so I thought. There was only one person in front of me, so it seemed like the best line to get in. This didn't happen to be my lucky day as the woman in front of me at World of Disney was "something unique"...

During this experience, something interesting came about. She was trying to use a "Disney Store" coupon at "World of Disney"...and they said NO. They tried to explain politely that they were not the same company and they couldn't take "Disney Store" coupons. Hmmmm...The woman went on to read the fine print....and "World of Disney" was on it...or so it seemed.

It turns out they are NOT owned by the same company and with changes in effect they could not accept this coupon. Okay, I got it, can't use coupon, make a decision, buy the stuff without the coupon or don't. Nope, I wasn't that lucky.

She continued to freak out about this. Okay, now maybe I was impatient as the sweltering heat just seemed to be getting more out of control...but lady, you're here on a trip...is that 10% going to make or break you? Take your darn product and buy it or GET OUT of the line...and put it back. Nope, we had to get a manager who again explained that "Disney Store" and "World of Disney" store are NOT one in the same company...

So before you head to Disney with coupons in hand, take note...not the same company and your coupon just may not work. Remember the people behind you in line....

Disney World Raised Ticket Prices and Confusion Levels

Disney World ticket prices increased over the weekend. Theme park still a great value, even though customers are caught off guard by latest price increase.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) August 10, 2006 –- Walt Disney World’s decision to raise prices last week affected many more people than just visitors to the Orlando theme parks. Discount Disney ticket resellers are feeling the crunch as vacation travelers are spending a lot of time trying to sort through the confusion on the web. “We’ve come to expect the yearly increase from the theme parks, but Disney came back for a second helping this year,” says Don Rogers, manager of Billy Boys Discount Tickets and Travel. Their website, Ticket Momma, is one of the more established discount ticket resellers on the internet and even they are not immune to the confusion. “Families looking for discount tickets are having trouble. When Disney raises their prices, it takes weeks for all of the websites that sell their product to get caught up and adjust their online prices. So shoppers are confused when they see many different gate prices and frustrated when they try to order from some of the companies that are in the middle of the price change.”

While finding someone to offer you a discount ticket is not hard, trusting one can be. Legitimate companies have to fight the stigma of timeshare presentations and fly-by-night operations who are selling so-called “dirty tickets” or tickets that have been partially used but still have vacation time left on them. The practice of selling used theme park tickets is against the law in the state of Florida. “Authorized discount ticket resellers can save a family $100-$200 or more on their Disney World tickets. That’s a significant savings,” Rogers mentions. “That really adds up for a family of four or five. Add in a dinner show discount or other Orlando attraction and the savings really add up. But getting people to understand that you are not requiring a timeshare presentation or that it doesn’t matter where you live is a constant challenge for us. We’ve tried to make it as convenient as possible to understand all of the options on our website. The parks are a great value, even at the new prices. If you buy some of the longer stay tickets (5 day, 6 day, 10 day), the price of the parks is less than $4 per hour. That’s cheaper than a movie. We’re just trying to add even a little more to the value.”

While theme park attendances are near some of their highest levels, many travelers continue to buy their attraction tickets at the gate and pay full price in the process. They are either unaware of the savings available to them or they are uneasy about buying from someone other than the actual theme park. Rogers continues, “Having been here for 25+ years, I’ve seen a lot of ticket sellers come and go. You can’t just look at a ticket and tell if it is even valid. You’d have to be crazy to just buy from someone walking up to you in a hotel lobby offering “too good to be true” prices. Being a full featured travel agent, we hope people understand the packages we can help them build.”

Rogers and the staff at Ticket Momma will continue to keep the most current and up-to-date pricing available on their website and hope that the vacation traveler can see through all of the smoke.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort offers a South Pacific theme and lush landscaping. This resort is one of Walt Disney World’s deluxe resorts. Room prices start at $315 during the value season and go up based on room size and location. There are water views, park views and garden views. Some rooms even offer a view of the famous castle! Rooms are decorated in a Hawaiian theme.
Walking into the lobby will immediately transport you to a lush tropic feel with their large beautiful water fountain. The entire area of Disney’s Polynesian Resort is a feast for the eyes. Take a stroll along the lagoon and enjoy the environment. Children activities are always going on.

Beaches and two pools greet you for sun filled fun. A volcano pool with a zero entry offers a themed experience and a waterslide. Pools are open from 10am to 10pm with lifeguards on site. As with other resorts, fishing, watercraft rental, and bike rental service are all available. A volleyball court is also on the grounds.

Be sure to grab a seat on the beach and watch the spectacular Electric Light Parade float by and prepare for a treat as you watch fireworks go off over the parks. These shows will entertain all ages! Who could ask for a better location?

Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort offers character dining with Lilo and Stitch during breakfast hours. Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Show is nothing less than fun and amazing with hula dancing, authentic music and other delights in an open-air theater. Other dining options are Ohana which offer all you can eat family fare and Kona Café which serves American and Asian cuisine. A quick serve type of food court is available at Captain Cook’s Snack Company; there are even toasters and microwaves here if you need one.

Arcades at Disney’s Polynesian Resort make for indoor fun during rainy days. The Never Land club offers scheduled activities for children ages four through twelve. It is a perfect opportunity for the kids to have fun while the grown-ups enjoy a romantic dinner.

Bus service, monorail service and boat launch service are all available to take you to the different areas of Walt Disney World including the theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney areas.
Concierge service, valet service and laundry services are available to those guests interested. A health club and spa at the Grand Floridian are open for use and a jogging trail is offered on site.

Disney Lodging

I did a series on Disney lodging over at AC. Because I chose them to be non-exclusive, I'm able to include them here and share them. They are brief descriptions of the different resorts at Disney. These were previously on my DISNEY DOG blog and I am closing that out and moving those posts here.

MouseSavers

For those of you who haven't heard about MouseSavers.com I wanted to call it to your attention. I'm mentioning it now because I just got my edition via email and it reminded me....They mail out a newsletter with great tips and savings. Head on over to MouseSavers.com and scroll to the bottom of the page. In the center there is a place to subscribe. They don't spam you and send great information.

MGM in Disney World

MGM Studios is a place to behold. Lots of entertainment, shows, and a few rides to get your attention. Rides include those such as the Rock N RollerCoaster, Tower of Terror, Star Tours, and The Great Movie Ride. I'm a rollercoaster fan and this one really did a great number on me. Got my adrenalin pumpling like crazy and left me wanting more. If the line wasn't so crazy long, I would have gone on again, (nov trip/we went on twice) and another fast pass would have cost me a few more hours, so I only made it once this visit.

As for the shows, we greatly enjoyed the Muppet Vision as the Muppets have been a long time favorite of mine. Remember the Muppet Show? Me-nah, me-nah, doo, doo, ba-dooba...me-nah, me-nah...yeah, you get the picture. I was getting carried away there!

Lunch was at the Sci-Fi Diner, which was a kick in itself. If you've never given this place a chance, give it a go. You sit in car boothes and watch clips of silly horror flicks and pieces of cartoons. It's something the whole family will enjoy.

Star Tours did the ole motion sickness on me, and I find as I get a little older, the virtual reality things get me like that. I think I hold my breath or something, because while I'm on something like a rollercoaster, I'm laughing my hiney off. I laugh and laugh the entire way along. Regardless..it's just a heads up for those who may have issues with motion sickness.

We loved the Animation clip and having the chance to learn how to draw a character...our turn it was Mickey! Both my son and I loved this opportunity....also Indiana Jones was a smashing success with us.

Turkey legs are a must before Fantasmic which is really a great show and a must see.

My all time favorite piece of MGM is seeing Mickey's giant hat as you walk in. Just something about the kid in me that delights in that hat! Maybe it's that it makes me feel like a kid again.

Animal Kingdom

As written on Disney Dog Blog in June/2006: (previously at http://disneydog.blogger.com though I'm currently moving the posts here to my Disney file)

Animal Kingdom was steamy and hot! I walked into the park and my watch and sunglasses fogged up within seconds. Expedition Everest is awesome and huge, watch out for the Yeti, and get that fast pass early! We had a 3 hour wait for ours. (Our Nov. trip we rode 3x in a row! =total time to do that...1 hour)

Dinosaur was loud and bumpy but a rocking good time. If you are looking for some dino-thrills, dinosaur is right up your alley. Nearby, there is an indoor/outdoor McDonalds/Restaurantosaurus where you can fill up on inexpensive grub, or mozy over a little further for some yummy BBQ at the Flame Tree BBQ with it's outside seating. There is a Rainforest Cafe at the front of the park.

The Tree of Life looms above with it's impressive carvings. Now the tree is not actually a real tree, and the carvings are plaster and cement, but you would never know it. It is truly a beautiful work of art. Inside the tree is the theater for "It's a Bug's Life"....the entire family will enjoy this show.

The Killimanjaro Safari is a delightful ride where you can see lions, giraffes and elephants. It is truly beautiful and enjoyable. With so much to see at Animal Kingdom, there is too much to mention at this time.

One thing I don't want you to forget is Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade which makes it's way around the park around 4pm. The Festival of the Lion King is another show that will please all age groups.

Epcot

I love Epcot. It's one of my favorite parks in Disney. I love the combination of things to do, things to see, things to ride, you name it. For those of you who have never experienced Epcot, you need to add it to your list of things to do!

Epcot is broken down into two sections. There is Future World, and there is also World Showcase. Epcot offers you two experiences for the price of one ticket! Woohoo.

World Showcase is awesome and lets you experience so many different countries. In the mood to check out Mexico, China, Norway or more? No problem, ride through them, walk through them, eat through them, or just take in the ambiance. It's always a treat to check out World Showcase at Epcot.

Future World offers a look at science and technology while making it fun. Soarin and Test Track are so much fun! Mission space offers two ways to ride. There is a mellower version for those not up for the feistier version of the ride.

Learning about Energy with Ellen or cruising through The Land all offer learning with stunning views and a relaxing ride. Kids won't even realize they are learning something, and those fraidy cats of rides won't even realize they're on rides as well as at shows! These are double feature packed with dynamic things for all.

Spaceship Earth, the giant golf ball/Earth sphere you see when enterting the park is also a ride. Stop by and hop on this mild moving car that takes you through stunning animatronics about communications through the ages. It's a great start or end to your day at Epcot.

Don't forget to stick around for the awesome firework display that will have you oohing and ahhing!

Epcot has something for everyone...and I love it!

Cypress Pointe, Orlando

This post was from my DisneyDog Blog and was moved here...we stayed at Cypress Pointe in June 2006...

We decided to stay off-site for more room. We stayed at Cypress Pointe which was 2-3 blocks from the disney entrance. We were on the end near Downtown Disney.

We stayed in a 3bedroom/3 bath condo. The rooms were large and had plenty of ammentities. We found our place clean and fully stocked. The two master bedrooms with bath were very large and had large garden tubs along with separate glassed enclosed showers. There were two sinks in each of the master baths. The main bathroom for the third bedroom was one you might find in a standard house...typical bathtub with shower, toilet and sink.

The beds were very comfortable and were kings in the two master bedrooms. A single bed with a trundle beneath it was in the third bedroom. Sheets and towels were all supplied.

A small kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, microwave and oven were included. Plates, cups and silverware was included as well. This was a nice addition, as well as having a washer and dryer in our unit.

Because there is a phase 1 and phase 2 in these units, there were also separate pool areas, and you were welcome to use either. In phase 1 there was a large free form pool with a volcano that sprayed droplets of water on you. Kids loved this pool. There were also three small tube slides on one end of the pool. The depth of this pool was from 3.5 feet to 5 feet, but no deeper. There was a jacuzzi and baby pool as well. Bathrooms as well as sporting areas for basketball, volleyball and shuffleboard were also found here.

Overall, we were greatly pleased. We will definitely use this site again in the future. We were happy with the conditions and ammenitites. Everyone we came in contact with was friendly and polite.

Magic Your Way

The tickets for Disney can get confusing, but the explanations available to you are massive!

Magic Your Way passes offer you multi-day passes with options such as "park hopper" which allows you to go between parks on the same day. There are options to add their water parks (Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach)to your tickets as well.

Those ticket's can be a huge cost to a family, so check out which options you can do with and without. Plan out your trip and consider how many days you'll need. You may find buying a ticket with extra days may actually save you moeny with different options. The more days you choose, the bigger the discount.

Tickets are non-transferable so keep that in mind when making your purchase.

Disney Bits

Grown-ups can become children overnight in Disney!

I don't know who was more excited about Disney this trip, me or my son. I think I have the enthusiasm of a child that is seeing something new. That's the cool thing about Disney, no matter how many times you've been there, there's always something new.

If you are looking for something new to do, why not check out some of the "behind the scenes tours"?

There are also all sorts of hidden and secret little things all over the park, have you noticed any?
For example, Cinderella's mice are on the carousel sign!

Have you ever tried a Pal Mickey. Children they will adore this, as it has unique sayings at different parts of the park.

How about PhotoPass...leave your camera at home and let the cast members snap your pictures. At the end of the time, bring your little card and get all your pics on a disk for $99 bucks, or use it to buy pics online when you get home!

Daniel Craig as James Bond

dcbond.jpg

Daniel Craig did a smashing job as James Bond in Casino Royale.

We checked out the flick Casino Royale this past weekend, and we were thrilled with our new Bond. He did a superb job in this role and both hubby and I agreed that he's not smooth and overly polished. We loved that. It had gotten to the point where Bond felt like a pretty boy, and Daniel Craig fills the shoes of a tough and to the point Bond.

He left women swooning, and men wishing they were that tough. Daniel Craig filled Bond's shoes with ease and we look forward to more of him soon.

At two and a half hours, we feared the movie would feel long, but it didn't at all. It was well done, and we really loved the ending as well. I could easily sit through this one a second time, and that's rare for me. Of course, with Daniel Craig as Bond, I could watch this one over and over and over again.

Eagles on Sunday Night

The Eagles had a disappointing loss with a 45-21 loss to the Colts. This now brings them to a standing of 5-6 in wins and losses. Not looking hopeful for the rest of the season, with McNabb sidelined and a large gap in point scoring.

Time will tell if they pull up the rear and get a few more wins, but with the season rounding the corner, it looks Dallas and the Giants may end up fighting it out for the NFC East title. Hoping the Eagles throw a surprise in there, but watching them last night didn't show me anything great.

Garcia stepped in and has some big shoes to fill for awhile...he may find his stride, but with little left to the season, he may not have a lot of time to do that in. Next week may be another store, and I'll be sure to tune in and find out the news....

Did Disney, Now Done!

I did the go round at Animal Kingdom, Epcot, MGM and Magic Kingdom. My legs are reminding me I need to lose weight! We had a blast and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Our highlights are as follows:

Downtown Disney: The LEGO Store, World of Disney and Rainforest Cafe were our favorites

Animal Kingdom: We did Expedition Everest 3x in a row! Enjoyed the Kilamajaro Safari, but prefer our own drive through one at Six Flags...Loved the drumming in Africa, and yes, I actually screamed once at the end of It's Tough to be a Bug at the very last gag which caught me off guard!

Epcot: Test Track is my favorite, along with all of The Land. Lunch was overpriced at the Garden Grill, but it's Disney so you come to expect it. Did Soarin' twice....very nice, love the smell of oranges on it!

MGM: Love Rock N Rollercoaster...wimped out of Tower of Terror, but had a bad experience on Free Fall at Great Adventure years ago...my son loved it though...Fantasmic was fabulous, really enjoyed this one, but I'd suggest leaving about 2 minutes before the stampede at the end of the show...and really enjoyed the animation studio where we learned to draw Mickey. Idiana Jones was a hit with both child and adult.

Magic Kingdom: Philharmagic was fabulous...I liked Pooh's ride..get over it, I'm a Pooh fan, and also really enjoyed some other parts. We skipped some of the bigger attractions that we did last time, because the crowds had picked up quite a bit and it limited our choices since waits were much longer. This was the day before Thanksgiving and you could tell holidays were coming with massive swells in the crowd.

Great time was had by all!

Pooh Gets a Makeover

Just in time for his 80th birthday, Winnie-the-Pooh is getting an extreme makeover.

The Disney Channel announced Thursday that it was working on a new animated series called My Friends Tigger and Pooh. The show is slated to debut in 2007 and seeks to update the geriatric characters, which were created by British author A.A. Milne in 1926 for his young son, Christopher Robin.

The most controversial part: the character of longtime bear buddy Christopher Robin will be banished from the Hundred Acre Wood and replaced by a six-year-old tomboyish girl.

The full story can be found here

How do you change a classic like this? Kids have known and loved Pooh for ages...and Christopher Robin is a piece of this. I understand Disney is a business and they are targeting another age group, but honestly, this classic is one that should remain untouched! Update the cartoon, but don't change important characters! Just my two cents on this makeover.
